Week 9 Sleeper Picks

With half of the 2019 season in the books (Already?!?!?), it's now make or break time for many fantasy owners. As experienced owners know, the superstars are what carry you over the season, but its the weekly sleepers that can win or lose you the week. With fantasy heavy NFL teams on bye this week, picking the right sleepers are all the more important.

Adrian Peterson (RB Redskins) - Derrius Guice's return is looming but as long as he is out, this is Adrian Peterson's backfield. Yes, Peterson has lost a step since his prime but let's be real - Adrian Peterson in his prime minus one step is still pretty good. Peterson has shown that he can still produce fantasy-relevant numbers and will be given a solid workload, so if you are looking for a high floor, low upside player this week to fill up the running back spot, look no further than AP.

Jaylen Samuels (RB Steelers) - This one is all based on James Conner's availability on Sunday. Reports are saying that he is doubtful for their game against the Colts this week, and even in the chance that he plays, chances are he will be limited. Jaylen Samuels has shown that he can step in as a legit RB2 when Conner is out. Mason Rudolph struggled last week against the Dolphins and the Colts present a much tougher situation, so expect the Steelers to keep it on the ground for most of the game. While Samuels doesn't hold much ROS value behind Conner, he is a no brain starter this week.

Sam Darnold (QB Jets) - In one of my previous posts, I said that Sam Darnold should be atop people's lists to replace Pat Mahomes and its safe so say it didn't work out after his -6.4 point performance against the Patriots. To be fair though, they are the statistically number one defense in practically every major category. This week takes a full 180 as the Jets play the Dolphins, one of the most fantasy-friendly teams despite their acquisition of Aqib Talib. If you're picking between Sam Darnold, Matt Moore, or Ryan Fitzpatrick this week, don't get cute. Pick Sam up.

DK Metcalf (WR Seahawks) - After a laughable 0-9 red zone target conversion before this week, Metcalf hauled in both of his red zone targets for paydirt this week. Finally gaining traction as one of Russell Wilson's favorite targets, Metcalf becomes an immediate start-worthy player against Tampa Bay's below average pass defense. With Wilson throwing at an MVP level this year, there are not many players in the WR3-WR4 tier with his ceiling.
